Over the last 15 years, I have personally benefitted from visiting dozens of schools to see real-life examples of innovation in Career Pathways.
One of the best structured visits has been the event hosted by the Nashville Hub, an organization that works closely with the Academies of Nashville. Metro Nashville Public Schools is a large urban district in Tennessee that built its high school improvement strategy around creating wall-to-wall academies for all students. They’ve re-branded their large high schools as “the Academies of Nashville.” The next study visit to Nashville is March 9-11 of 2020. Registration is open: CLICK HERE TO REGISTER!
If you’ve already been to Nashville or are just getting started with your own career pathways initiative, you may also be interested in exploring career academies that are different in size, demographics, and geography from the Nashville model. It actually really helps to see a variety of implementation examples over time so you can determine what are the specific approaches that are best for your schools and your community. Over the last couple of years, the National Career Academy Coalition (NCAC), a close partner organization with NC3T, has been hosting a series of high-quality learning visits they call an “Insight Onsite.”
Take a look at three upcoming visits that NCAC is offering this winter and spring. Click here to get more information: https://www.ncacinc.com/services/insight
Here’s the list of upcoming visits:
- Polk County, Florida (Tampa/Lakeland area) – January 21-22, 2020
- Waipahu High School, Waipahu, Hawaii – February 6-7, 2020
- Dubiski Career High School, Grand Prairie, Texas – March 5-6, 2020
- Grand Island Senior High School, Grand Island, Nebraska – March 23-24, 2020
If you go to one of these, please get back in touch with me directly and let me know how it went for you, and what insights you gained.
